NEW LODGE PROJECT UNDERWAY!

We’re excited to announce the launch of our project to build a replacement home for the Passamaquoddy Lodge in the age-friendly community of Saint Andrews.  Located on the Bar Road at Champlain, on land donated by the Town, the new lodge will replace the current home with innovative design and programming to provide the community, our residents, and our staff with the next generation of care: aging in community, aging in place, aging in care.

THE CARE MODEL

Our care model is based on the belief that everyone has the right to age with dignity, where residents and others enjoy excellent quality of life, quality care and empowerment of residents and staff. Our new, pandemic-responsive facility will provide each resident with an individual room and bathroom, in homes of 12 residents, and offer programs and services for local residents who want to, and can, continue to live at home, as well as for informal caregivers.

OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

Passamaquoddy Lodge will be collocated with a community partnership space to support those aging in the community and their caregivers.  Some key features include:

  • Replacement of our nursing home to provide care for our seniors in a home, with individual rooms, that meets today’s standards for care in a pandemic-responsive environment
  • Developing a community outreach program and partnership space that provides support to, and enhances, the quality of life for seniors living independently and aging in place, as well as to their caregivers
  • Replacing the out-of-date daycare centre to improve the care given to our children, enhance intergenerational opportunities, and support our employees who have young children
  • Integration of best practices and technology
  • A tested model for other communities to use

LINKING TO CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

The new complex will incorporate a much-needed new facility for the Passamaquoddy Children’s Centre. Key feedback on maintaining an age-friendly community is ongoing intergenerational activities and opportunities; integrating a much-needed new daycare in the nursing home complex is key to ensuring this happens. Research, and reality, show that intergenerational interaction enhances socialization, stimulates learning, improves health, and increases emotional support for older people, children, and the community as a whole.  Having the daycare collocated allows ongoing interaction between our residents and our youth.

FUNDRAISING

Once the Province of New Brunswick gives us the go-ahead to proceed with the project and commit the funds to operate the new centre, the Board of the Lodge is responsible for raising the funds to build it.

Our planning so far has been made possible through donations from foundations and community organizations. We will be seeking additional donations and multi-year pledges to move to the final design and construction phases.   Stay tuned for details of our campaign to involve everyone in the community.

THE FUTURE OF OUR CURRENT BUILDING

Affordable Housing is the top socio-economic development priority for the Town of Saint Andrews. Once our residents are in their new home, there are many options to use the current building to help the community grow.   We have interest from several parties to redevelop our existing home for affordable Housing.
